Levetiracetam-induced psychosis in a Filipino female diagnosed with anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor encephalitis: a case report

Levetiracetam (LEV), an SV2A inhibitor is a widely available anti-epileptic drug that used to treat range of partial and generalized seizure juvenile myoclonic epilepsy. It generally well tolerated deemed safe due the absence drug-to-drug interaction. Despite its safety, there are adverse effects can lead discontinuation this anti-seizure medication. Some reported infrequent mood-related changes including agitation, depression, anxiety suicidal ideations be observed after initiation or rapid up titration The mechanism for still unknown but certain theories attempted determine association. Risk factors were female sex, temporal lobe involvement history psychiatric disorder. In case report, we present 30-year-old without illness diagnosed with anti N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) encephalitis who presented was started on LEV control. She developed aggression secondary up-titration LEV. symptoms resolved said
